How identity verification uses your face and ID

Before a background check, applicants verify their identity with a photo of a government ID and a live selfie. This policy explains what that involves, who handles it, how long anything is kept and how it is destroyed.

Last updated: October 22, 2026 · Effective October 22, 2026

The short version. Our identity-verification partner, Stripe, captures your ID photo and a live selfie and compares them. Praxion never receives the images, the ID numbers or any face template. We receive only whether the check passed. Nothing happens without your explicit consent, and nothing is ever sold.

What is collected

When you start the identity check on Stripe’s secure page, Stripe captures:

  • a photo of your driver’s license, passport or national ID card; and
  • a live selfie, from which a facial geometry comparison is made against the photo on your ID.

These are “biometric identifiers” and “biometric information” under some state laws. They are captured and held by Stripe, not by Praxion. Praxion keeps only a verification record: the session reference, the result (for example verified, needs another try or canceled), the dates, and your consent record (time, consent version and a scrambled, hashed form of your internet address).

Purpose

The data is used solely to confirm that the person applying is who they say they are, before a background check and before any commission is paid. It is not used for marketing, profiling, tracking or any other purpose.

Before the check starts, the application portal shows you this disclosure in a consent checkbox that is unchecked by default. The check cannot start until you tick it. We record when you consented and which version of the consent text you saw.

No sale; limited disclosure

Praxion does not sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from biometric data. Biometric data is disclosed only to our identity-verification provider to perform the check, and otherwise only if you consent, or if a law, a valid warrant or a subpoena requires it.

Retention and destruction

Verification record (result, session reference, dates) and consent recordPraxionDestroyed when the purpose of verification has been met and no later than 3 years after our relationship with you ends (or your last interaction with us, if you never became a consultant), whichever comes first, unless a law or legal process requires us to keep it longer.

Destruction means deletion from our live database; deleted records leave our rotating backups within about two months.

How it is protected

We protect the verification record with the same care we use for other confidential and sensitive information: encrypted connections, restricted access (Praxion owners and authorized admins only) and the safeguards described on our Security & data page.

Your choices

You may decline to consent. If you do, the identity check does not start; contact us to discuss whether another way to verify your identity is available. You may ask us to delete our verification record at any time, subject to any legal duty to keep it. You may also ask Stripe directly about the data it holds.
